Description
A finely executed Sheraton Revival sideboard of serpentine outline, veneered in richly figured satinwood and embellished throughout with contrasting crossbanding, ebony stringing, and classical marquetry panels. The façade is architecturally balanced, comprising three frieze drawers above a configuration of three cupboard doors, all raised on turned, tapering legs terminating in pad feet.
The rectangular top, subtly break-fronted, is decorated with an intricate parquetry field arranged in a diagonal lozenge pattern, framed within multiple bands of cross-grain veneer and fine boxwood stringing. The crisp geometry of the surface demonstrates careful cabinetmaking and precise veneer matching.
Below, the frieze contains three drawers fitted with cast brass oval handles featuring neoclassical urn motifs in relief, flanked by applied floral paterae mounts. The central drawer retains its working lock and escutcheon. Drawer interiors are constructed in solid timber with traditional joinery.
The cupboard doors are adorned with striking oval marquetry reserves set against ebonized grounds. The central panel depicts a classical urn overflowing with flowering foliage, rendered in contrasting veneers to create depth and tonal variation. The flanking doors display matching urn motifs in symmetrical composition. The marquetry is finely shaded and carefully cut, characteristic of high-quality furniture inspired by late 18th-century English design.
Vertical stiles are accented with darker banding, visually framing each section and enhancing the architectural rhythm of the piece. The interior reveals two shelved compartments, offering practical storage while maintaining refined external proportions.
