Description
A finely executed pair of rectangular bedside cabinets in the Neo-Classical Revival taste, constructed in satinwood and burr veneers with contrasting inlaid ornament. Each cabinet of upright, architectural form, the façade centred by an oval marquetry panel depicting a classical maiden in profile, draped in flowing robes and holding a lyre, rendered in contrasting veneers against a striated ground. The figure stands beside a pedestal, evoking Greco-Roman iconography and reinforcing the classical vocabulary of the design.
The doors are framed within a burr-veneered field bordered by stringing and delicate line inlay. Stylised rosettes occupy each corner, linked by fine vertical banding. The tops feature a central oval patera composed of radiating foliate marquetry within a cross-banded border. Sides are veneered in figured satinwood, the whole raised on shaped plinth bases with a scalloped apron detail. Each cabinet opens to reveal a shelved interior, offering practical storage.
