Description

A finely made Louis XVI style mahogany double bed of elegant proportions, richly decorated with figured veneers and gilt bronze mounts. The serpentine shaped headboard is surmounted by a pierced gilt bronze cresting formed as a floral wreath enclosing a ribbon-tied motif, with trailing garlands extending across the top rail. Below, the headboard features finely figured parquetry panels framed within moulded mahogany borders, centred by an applied gilt bronze trophy ornament of suspended baskets and ribbons.
The shaped footboard mirrors the refined craftsmanship of the headboard, with a broad central parquetry panel displaying striking geometric figuring. The corners are adorned with scrolling gilt bronze foliate mounts, while the lower frieze is centred by an additional gilt bronze cartouche. The uprights terminate in tapering turned feet, each decorated with further gilt bronze appliqués, reinforcing the classical Louis XVI aesthetic.
The bed frame is constructed in solid mahogany with matching side rails, combining strong architectural form with delicate decorative detail.
