Description
A fine early Victorian cylindrical bedside or occasional cabinet, constructed in richly figured mahogany and retaining its original white marble inset top. The piece is of elegant drum form, the vertical body veneered in beautifully matched flame mahogany with a warm, honeyed patina that highlights the natural movement and depth of the grain. The cylindrical outline is accentuated by a boldly moulded top and plinth base, creating a balanced and architecturally confident silhouette.
The top is fitted with a circular white marble panel, neatly recessed within a substantial moulded mahogany surround. The marble displays gentle age-related marking consistent with use, complementing the character of the timber. The body is enclosed by a single curved door, seamlessly integrated into the drum form and fitted with a simple white ceramic knob and brass collar. When opened, the door reveals a well-proportioned interior fitted with a fixed circular shelf, providing practical storage while maintaining the cabinet’s clean external lines.
The cabinet stands on a stepped circular plinth base that mirrors the moulded top, grounding the design and reinforcing its symmetrical form.
