Description
This outstanding late-Victorian sideboard is meticulously crafted in richly figured pollard oak, prized for its complex swirling grain and dramatic tonal variation. The piece presents a grand architectural profile, crowned by a large circular bevelled mirror set within a moulded arched pediment. Flanking the mirror are raised panels embellished with deeply carved foliate and scroll motifs, all rendered with exceptional precision.
The broad serving surface leads to a well-proportioned lower section comprising two panelled cupboards, a central glazed compartment, and an upper drawer. Each cupboard door features distinctive quarter-arc carved panels that highlight the natural figuring of the pollard oak, complemented by original brass ring pulls and period hardware. The internal shelving provides adaptable storage, while the lined central compartment and fall-front glazed door offer an elegant display feature.
Resting on a solid plinth base, the cabinet is supported by turned front legs and an ornate carved stretcher, contributing both visual richness and structural stability. The warm patina and elaborate Victorian ornamentation establish this sideboard as a superb example of fine 19th-century craftsmanship.
