Description
A well-figured burr walnut dressing table in the Art Deco manner, the rich veneers displaying lively swirling grain and warm honeyed tones throughout. The kidney-shaped top is raised above a central frieze drawer, flanked symmetrically by twin pedestal cupboards, each fitted with two drawers and finished with dark Bakelite knob handles, characteristic of the period. The rounded edges and stepped plinth bases emphasise the streamlined, modernist aesthetic associated with 1930s design.
The original mirror plate, of shaped rectangular form with softened shoulders, is mounted within a simple stand and retains its subtle bevelled edge. The table surface and drawer fronts are particularly striking, showcasing carefully matched burr walnut veneers, while the sides are finished in a complementary straight grain, enhancing the contrast of textures.
